Solved - See post #5 for link
About 50 years ago there was a TV commercial (?) showing a young man standing in a snowstorm on the side of a highway. He was holding out his thumb, and holding a sign that said "Miami". A gorgeous female in a sports car pulls up next to him, rolls down the passenger window, and says, "I'm only going as far as Ft. Lauderdale". With a sigh of disappointment, the young man turns his attention back to the oncoming traffic and holds out his thumb looking for a better opportunity.

I'm sorry I can't help you, but I'm guessing that idiot is still waiting for a lift.

I don't recall that commercial. But, I found a reference to what likely was it. It's from some discussion on a golfing site. (I don't golf, so I don't know the site.) An entry from one participant says that (something) reminds him/her of "that old Alka Seltzer commercial" ... and describes what you indicated. The difference is that this references a man - not a sexy woman - stopping. Hope that's it. www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php?topic=55479.50;wap2

O.P here. EUREKA - www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2J38OAlwkk#t=4m18sI’ve been thinking about this occasionally for at least eight years. I found a post I did on google groups back in 2014. Someone did mention Alka Seltzer, but I never was able to confirm. I was skeptical back then because I usually associated Alka Seltzer with upset-stomach or headache. Also, nobody else recalled that the driver was a lone woman. This time, I decided to watch EVERY YouTube video when I selected, “Alka Seltzer”. It took well over an hour and there were many commercials remaining. It did bring back a lot of memories. My three favorites (all food related) are “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”, “Marshmallowed meatballs”, and “Spicy meatball”. I can’t remember the last time I saw an Alka Seltzer commercial. Do they still do them?
