The second half mostly doesn’t work, but I liked the first half a lot, finding it as effective a what-is-reality story as the original (which is better than this one, all told, but which also has a second half that doesn’t totally work for me). I liked Neil Patrick Harris, an actor I usually find too mannered, as the villain; thought Keanu Reeves’s acting is better than in the original; and genuinely enjoyed Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss’s love story. The meta-ness of the beginning also appealed to me and didn’t seem like it was there for the sake of being meta; it’s part of this kind of story.
I usually think numerical ratings for movies are too simplistic, but if forced I would give this movie… I was originally going to say a 7, now I say a 6. I guess. Maybe. I do like the premise so much.

2/10
2 points for Wakowski basically telling WB to f**k themselves by turning this revival into an actual parody of revivals. I was mildly amused by that. But… still a bad borderline unwatchable movie.
