That scene in the finale appears to have ignited a bit of an ugly debate on Twitter regarding Cyborg’s absence, but I’m not sure Gunn had any other options. Ray Fisher wasn’t going to come back and using a stand-in would’ve likely led to a lot more people crying foul.
All the drama attached to the DCEU is exhausting.

Saw this and I thought they were only going to use stand-ins and keep the heroes in shadow.... but I was surprised they actually got Momoa and Miller to cameo. Must not have been cheap.

Don't watch anything on this streaming crap because I can't.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see who I am sure is Vigilante in this.

Asked why iterations of Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg were not used in the show, Gunn became a little more guarded than while speaking on other subjects, suggesting that he knows a little more than he was allowed to say. What he was able to share was: “You know, I don’t know what I can — there are reasons for it, but I’m actually uncertain whether I can say what those reasons are. It might have to do with future stuff.”

My guess, is that Affleck wanted out of the DCEU and made it clear he had no interests in playing Batman. Fisher on the other hand probably got himself blacklisted from future DC movies if not future WB movies overall.
