My Lovely Wife and I have been watching a Great Courses lecture series on ancient Egypt. Even though we all say too-tan-COM-in, our Egyptian expert always said too-TAK-a-moon.
Just passing this valuable information along. We all want to get it right.

Most of the English language seems to originate from mispronunciation anyway.

Tut tut, I'm sure he doesn't mind.
His given name was Tutankhaten but dropped the "aten" at the end for "amun" when he dropped the Cult of Aten after his father died. His father, Akhenaten, was one of the most fascinating people in history. Out of the blue, he dropped the polytheism of Egypt for one God, Aten. One God, who didn't have any graven images, just represented by he disk of the Sun, with the beams ending in hands to caress the worshipers. Big deal you say. Well, the followers of the other monotheistic religion, Judaism, was in Egypt at the same time. Tradition says that the Hebrews were well thought of when the came to Egypt but became slaves later. Like you might expect the followers of a heretical religion might be treated. The leader of these people, Moses, had an Egyptian name. The "ses" was Egyptian, like Ramses or Thutmose. And the hymns that Akhenaten wrote to his God were a lot like the Psalms of King David. Did Tut's father found the one monotheistic religion that dominates the world. Is Judaism, Christianity and Islam started by Tut's daddy?
You look at the fabulous riches that was in Tutankhamen's and remember that he was a minor Pharaoh who had a short reign. I can't imagine the treasures that must have been buried with Khufu, Amenhotep III, Ramses II.

You’ve all been pronouncing it wrong, but I’ve been saying it right this whole time.

The things you find out when you are not looking for them.
Not only have we been pronouncing Tutankhamun incorrectly, but back in 2019, Rihanna informed the world that the pronunciation ree-AH-na was not right. It is ree-ANN-uh. I didn’t get that memo until now.
But now, Lindsay Lohan has jumped in. Her last name is not LO-han, it is LO-wen. So there! We’ve been told.

Hmmm. Well, we don’t really know that though, do we? These names are pronounced in (relatively) modern accents. We don’t know what ancient Egyptian sounded like exactly.

So we were spelling it wrong! No wonder I can't pronounce it.
