Youngest player to be ranked #1. Commentators on TV were talking about him as a potential all-time great... In any other case, I'd chalk it up to the usual hyperbole, but man this guy looks good. You can't outhit him, can't outrun him, can't outlast him, can't outthink him. He has every shot in the book, and a few things you've never seen before. His focus is on par with his ability, and he's completely fearless, executing baseline dropshots while down in later set tiebreakers. That Tiafoe match cemented it for me. Home player on a hot streak, playing out of his mind with the crowd behind him. Alcaraz had an answer every time. He doesn't get rattled, he has no weakness to his game that I can identify, and he's only 19. Imagine him at 23-24. The sky is the limit. He's got that little something extra too. Charisma? Panache? I dunno, but he's got it. During one point I think in the 2nd set, he and Ruud were all over the court and Alcaraz was flying back and forth, I think he even kinda dove for a shot that ultimately went out for a point for Ruud, and Alcaraz slowly gets up, smiles at the crowd, recognizing how great of a point that was even though it didn't go his way. The crowd absolutely loves him too. Definitely has superstar potential.

The crowd absolutely loves him too. Definitely has superstar potential. Yeah he was doing some of that in the Tiafoe match, too. Giving Tiafoe a nod or a smile after a crazy rally. It means he loves the game. He probably doesn't so as much of that ten years from now, when he starts seeing it more as a grind as opposed to something he just loves doing. We all knew he was the future even before this tournament, but that Tiafoe match quickly became one of my all time favorites. You could see Tiafoe doing the math as the match progressed. He tried everything. Baseline rallies, drop shots, running Alcaraz around the court, nifty half-volleys; he just couldn't find anything that worked consistently. In the end all he could do was try to win cheap points on his serve by slamming it and hoping Alcaraz couldn't return it, that's why his first serve % was crap. Tiafoe literally had to try to be perfect to have a chance to win. Frankly it's impressive Tiafoe pushed it to five sets, it has to be so disheartening to fill out that mental checklist. "Well, that's not working. Neither is that. Nope. Shit, he's still chasing this stuff down. How did he come up with that?" But Tiafoe dug deep, too. He never quit on that match, the crowd wouldn't let him. God, I love a great US Open match. But Alcaraz is just too good. At some point I turned to my wife and gave Alcaraz the highest of sporting compliments: "This must be what it's like to play me in Badminton."

John McEnroe had kind words for Tiafoe after he was named to represent Team World at the fifth edition of the Laver Cup -
“I am thrilled to have Frances on the team. He has raised his game to a whole new level and has shown that he can compete and win against the best players on Tour. Plus, he brings a positive energy that should help the entire team.”

Interesting Turf Wars all over the World Pickleball exploding to new heights - Tom Brady and Kevin Durant now own teams Proper Etiquette - Should tennis courts be solely used for tennis? Would you use a football field to play soccer? Interesting indeed.....

ATP Tour Finals started yesterday in Turin, Italy. The eight players are divided in two groups:
Nadal Ruud Auger-Aliassime Taylor Fritz
Tsitsipas Medvedev Rublev Djokovic
Top two of each group advance to semi-finals.
Youngster Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, currently ranked #1, is not taking part - possibly because of injury. Nadal and Tsitsipas are the only ones that have a chance of taking the top spot on the ranking from him. If anyone else wins the tournament, Alcaraz will be the youngest man ever to end the year as the #1 player in the world.

Djokovic waltzed through this tournament. Total domination. He’s still a selfish asshole for the stint he pulled in Australia. Basically, he tried to cheat the system but was caught.
