As where Moonraker would later capitalize on the success of Star Wars, we get British Cotton Comes to Harlem now. “Names is for tombstones, baby!” Another different Felix Leiter yet again. Kick-ass title track from Paul McCartney and Wings. How many pre-credit scenes don’t feature OO7? This is one of them. Jane Seymour looking very lovely.    |

It has my favorite title song and the final kill is great, otherwise I'm not the biggest fan.
I remember thinking how much I missed Connery in the role, and I've only watched it once, so a rewatch with a better perspective is overdue.

It’s odd enough to be just okay. The boat chase is pretty cool. I found it kind of funny how easily Roger Moore could be tricked or captured in his first outing as 007.

This isn't one of my favorite Bond films, but I acknowledge there's good stuff in it. The title song is one of the series' best. David Hedison was a good Felix Leiter. The boat chase was fantastic, but it goes on a little too long. Tee Hee Johnson and Baron Samedi were cool henchmen. Jane Seymour was lovely to look at, but she didn't have a lot to do after she leaves Mr. Big. I dislike some of the campier moments, and Mr. Big's death is so god awful.

WRONG. Because Harlem is also the setting in the novel that was published way back in 1954. Long before Cotton Comes to Harlem - the novel or the film.
I find it rather insipid and uninspired like most of McCartney's post-Beatles stuff. Now, if it were the Guns N Roses version, then we would be talking - and rocking:

I think it's the rarity overrated & underrated at the same time. The blaxploitation stuff is fine, from its era. Moore is fine, & pretty good as a debut. The title song is obviously good.
The bubba & skeeter southern fried keystone cops are a disgrace. Things like that make me cringe when we're in the same franchise as From Russia with Love &/or Casino Royale's degree of adulthood.

Loved it.
For me, the humour was tiptop , some intentionally, very funny moments, unlike the unintentionally humorous stuff in a lot of Pierce's outings.
Still makes me grin on every revisit.
Great bunch of villains, and the main song by Macca......nuff said.
Liked B J Arnau's version also.
I did miss a John Barry soundtrack.....but George Martin did make nice fist of it.
Roger Moore was great, and I liked that he didn't try to ape Sean.
I still say 'ButterHook' when folk I know get clumsy.

Mid-level Bond and not a favorite with a lot of fans, but I've always liked it. It was Moore's first foray into Fleming territory and he is pretty good (it would take another film or two before he really settled into the role).
McCartney's sizzling opening score, complete with flaming skull, rocked me back in my first row seat when I saw it in '73 and the voodoo setting was a welcome change from the usual picture post card locations of the Connery series.
Despite the many implausible situations and a couple of silly characters, it is enjoyable on its own terms even if it is closer to a live action cartoon when compared to the dramatically grounded From Russia with Love.

It's interesting that Wings did the song for this particular one. Because it has the most diversity.
The reason is, because he also had a song, ebony and ivory. Later on. Coinsidence? the world may never everknow.
