I got a very important question about my fave monster hero, Swamp Thing. It's a question strictly related to the Alan Moore canon, and only considering Moore's vision as being canonical. That's the basic premise.
Well, Swamp Thing is not Alec Holland. The Regenerative Formula did not contribute to its creation at all, as thought before. Presumibly, it's the Green which created the Swamp Thing, and all the Swamp Things before "Alec". Right? So, is the Green a kind of sentient entity/force able to "pick" whoever dies in flames and throws himself/herself into the swamp (like Alec Holland did in 1972?). And did all other Swamp Things, who were later fused together into the "Parliament of Trees", at first experience the delusion to have been "humans turned into plant monsters", like "Alec" did in 1972-1984? It's also strange that the Parliament of the Trees or the Green itself never attempted at contacting Alec/Swamp Thing in the timespan before the "revelation", 1972-1984. That's pretty illogical, since the Swamp Thing is supposed to be the "avatar" of the Green.
Looking forward your feedback. Thank you so much, really.

I definitely think we're meant to infer any Swamp Thing before and after is also not really the human they thought they were. But I've only read Moore's run.

This is why Swamp Thing is my favorite comic character. Batman's psychology is complex, but Swamp Things very being is complex. I almost think of him as being the Holy Trinity of science fiction. There's the question of what is the God head, it's the father, the son and the holy spirit, some religions it's the father and the word. My interpretation of Swamp Thing is he is the Green, as someone said physically he's an avatar for the Green. How he exists as the Green is the consciousness and memory of Alec Holland manipulating Earth itself to be the Green. It's described in Alan Moore's comics and maybe even the recent TV show I don't remember, but they point out while dissecting him that he has earthen facsimile's of all the human organs. The Green would have no need to fake having lungs and a liver using mud and vines, but Alec Holland would.

I think that the Green is just a supernatural energy behind the plant life. Not a "mind". The creation of a Swamp Thing is 100% accidental, and it's a weird mechanism embedded into the Green. It's not a conscious mechanism. That would explain why Swamp Thing believes to be Alec for 13 years, and nobody or nothing "cares" about it.
