"It's like that moment you find out you've been cheated on. Your whole stomach drops."
10th (of 12) placed Aston Villa Women almost hung on for a precious point on Sunday against 2nd placed Chelsea Women, conceding to a Samantha Kerr strike in added time. Chelsea keeper Musovic launched a soaring goal-kick which fell to Kerr who slotted home for a 1-0 Chelsea victory. Villa Women had defended well throughout the game and coach Ward said afterwards the Villa dressing room was so quiet you could have heard the proverbial pin drop. Tired of the same old worn-out rhetoric from defeated managers? We feel bad. We deserved something out of it. We gave them too much respect. It's hard to take defeat and we're feeling a bit bad. Ward goes instead for the jugular. Sam Kerr latches onto the goal-kick and prods home. Yes, by getting three points next time out. Ever onwards, Ward, in football and in love.
