Is Damon Lindelof Lucasfilm's Next Jedi? Where there's smoke there's fire as reps won't respond to rumors he's taking on Star Wars

I doubt it, he's no better than Abrams. Can't Disney just look real hard and a find a good director for Star Wars?

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

However, if there's another desert planet &/or death star, I'm walking out.

that would likely be a good idea for a tv series, not a movie , i don't think Oscar would come back again for an underdeveloped character

Lindelof is a hack, maybe worse than JJ. This franchise is doomed.

".... While we're taking this with a pinch of salt for now, World of Reel is claiming to have learned that production on Lindelof's untitled Star Wars movie begins in April. Reiterating recent rumours, they note that while it will feature a new set of leads with some of the characters from the last trilogy making an appearance. That could mean the likes of Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron finally get satisfying endings to their respective stories, though giving them cameo roles here arguably lessens their importance. On the other hand, serialised storytelling is working really well for Star Wars on Disney+, so perhaps that's the plan for movies now as well."

Save it from what? The sequels laregly have better reviews than the prequels and they have made at least 2 good TV shows. Franchise is fine.

Damon Lindelof's name has been connected to an upcoming Star Wars movie for quite some time, and he's finally spoken about it in an interview with Slash Film. "I will just say, that for reasons that I can't get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high. If it can't be great, it shouldn't exist. That's all I'll say, because I have the same association with it as you do, which is, it's the first movie I saw sitting in my dad's lap, four years old, May of '77. I think it's possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you start to get in the kitchen and you just go, 'Maybe I shouldn't be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating.' We'll just leave it at that point."

It doesn't matter how good a director is. If the script is full of BS. The Director is going to make a film about BS.
The sequels had BS scripts... yeah, I didn't enjoy the stories or what happened with the characters... BS seems to be what most Film makers want to make these days...
I truly don't think Star Wars can be saved.

Didnβt he write Prometheus? If so he has already written something better than anything SW.

Or convoluted silly space opera that wants us to take it seriously. I recall David Lynch getting a headache during a pitch meeting with George Lucas. Like it or not, the first film is the best, not because how revolutionary it was but because it was a simple story told through the action. Empire tries to be "mature" but fails in it's mystical nonsense and unlikeable characters. Return of the Jedi is far too infantile, and that was pretty much that. Anyway, Lucas turned it into a marketable entity and you can't get rid of it. It's here for the long run. I say ignore it and move on. Let the young ones watch it.

Yeah, I think they should try less about making the next ESB, & try for ANH - this time without f'ing copy-pasting the thing like TFA. Have them watch Star Wars 1977 100x times, & nothing else... then put pen to pad. Rogue One is the best 21st SW, & they managed to throw a lot of humor with its mature action. It can be done. SW has entered a James Bond zone, where eras of their films have become unique unto themselves. Just as we're probably getting a less gritty 007 era to come, why not dial it back again for SW... make it for 11yr olds just like it was supposed to... instead of f'ing 39yr old whiners.
