This stand-up concert was seen as Richard Pryor's ultimate confessional by some, his "coup de grace" by others. I think it was the most financially successful stand-up concert ever when released, as shot for home video by experimental cameraman Haskell Wexler who was a friend of Pryor. Eddie Murphy then came along and shattered box-office and video rental records for filmed stand-up comedy shows in his wake.
