Just discovered that Tuesday Weld's mother wrote a tell all MOMMIE DEAREST type book about her "wild child" cult actress daughter called IF ITS TUESDAY... I MUST BE DEAD. Who knew? Anyone read it? The Floyd Conner biog of her gets lousy reviews so I'll pass at current prices Tuesday was a strong contender in a fun COOLEST CLASSIC STARS thread on the old imdb. She started out via the teen model route in the late 50s along with Sandra Dee, Carol Lynley etc as wholesome teen bait in studio flics, then some less wholesome (SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE, RETURN TO PEYTON PLACE, WILD IN THE COUNTRY with Elvis) andtwo with Steve McQueen (SOLDIER IN THE RAIN & THE CINCINATTI KID), and two offbeat gems - the sultry whackjob who makes Norman Bates look well adjusted in PRETTY POISON, the delightful California comedy LORD LOVE A DUCK.... and a bit later got an oscar nom as Diane Keaton's swinger sister in LOOKING FOR MR GOODBAR, and played a very tough cookie in ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. But she is really better known as the actress who turned down LOLITA, BONNIE AND CLYDE, ROSEMARYS BABY, CACTUS FLOWER, BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE and TRUE GRIT - any or all of which would have probably made her a huge star - so she always seems to be under most folks radar, which is a great shame. Here's the sweater scene from LORD LOVE A DUCK - shame it not in colour.... Periwinkle Pussycat is my favourite shade! Strong thoughts on Tuesday?

Strong thoughts on Tuesday? You should have mentioned her superb performance as Marge - opposite an electrifying Nick Nolte, in the 1978 cult classic WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN, it's one of her very best. "Don't fold on me Marge."

I always liked her a lot. She's a talented actress who had a really hard life and took a lot of abuse from people who knew better, both in her childhood and in her early days in Hollywood. She made the right choice in choosing life over the film business. I love that she was married to Pinchas Zukerman, though it didn't last. But honestly, it's a wonder she was able to marry at all. Just discovered one of the few of hers I have not seen on youtube - a 1982 TV version of THE RAINMAKER with Tommy Lee Jones directed by John Frankenheimer! Would love to see her in THE CRUCIBLE from 1967 with George C Scott, Colleen Dewhurst, Melvyn Douglas directed by Alex Segal. Should probably give PLAY IT AS IT LAYS another spin.

She shined in the 1980 ensemble comedy SERIAL, a biting satire of California’s Marin County in the 1970’s. It’s a mostly forgotten comedy gem and I think Tuesday never looked lovelier.

In truth I found the Cyra McFadden novel funnier - but movie did make me laugh - Tuesday and the rest of the cast were game. Speaking of comedysShe was Bryan Forbes' first choice for THE STEPFORD WIVES (The Paula Prentiss part - with Seberg as Joanna /Katharine Ross) but it never panned out.

The Swedish Connection: I'll Take Sweden 1965, Yah Yah Yah! (on the cover of the Sountrack LP it explains that it means "Yeah Yeah Yeah" in English) Not a movie I can recommend.

They used it on the poster too! "The picture is an altogether asinine little romp... Nothing can save this tattered, old-fashioned dip." raved the New York Times. Yes I have seen it and recall nothing (mercifully). Tuesday has made worse (PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM AND EVE? anyone? )

Like Pinchas Zukerman, Dudley Moore was a classically trained violinist.
