Well yeah, the Christianity rate has been dropping dramatically, there's just not as much money in making these types of films for major studios. Hell even 20 years ago, "Passion of the Christ" had to market itself as a gory exploitation film to get people interested, the Christianity angle alone wouldn't have been enough. His best hope would have been to get Pure Flix to greenlight and call it "God's Not Dead 4" or something.

Because Hollywood no longer makes these kinds of films anymore, apparently - linkI find it interesting that he would approach a Hollywood movie company to begin with. There are tons of other 'faith based' movie companies out there that make all kinds of religious movies all the time.
Besides....generally, funding...who pays to have the move made... is different than the company making the move. MOST movies are funded BY someone or some group/some companies then I believe the producer(s) take that money and get a movie company to make the movie. In this case Wahlberg is paying for the movie to be made. Another example is George Harrison paid to have the movie Life of Brian made. HE didn't make the move, but he paid for it. Heck, Clint Eastwood created Malpaso Productions so he could make the kind of movies he wanted to.
And let's include the part where sources of normal funding for Christian movies/movies on faith, eg the Catholic church, didn't want to fund the movie either...because it was too vulgar.

Just saw the trailer for this. I had no idea about him paying for it himself, or just how “Christian” it was, not withstanding the obvious part. he becomes a priest. My very first thought, with no info? He was happy to do a redemption story, almost a personal allegory, given his history of violence as a teen. I think it was even racially charged, maybe a Vietnamese dude? He tried to ‘make it right’ very publicly a few years ago, but? I think the guy snubbed him.

The Python team had this sort of problem when they made Life of Brian.

If that's Wahlberg's pad, he needs to take a few faith-based lessons from JC in easing up on the love of worldly riches...

If that's Wahlberg's pad, he needs to take a few faith-based lessons from JC in easing up on the love of worldly riches... Why? Jesus lives in heaven with everything he ever wanted, 100 new virgins every morning to clean the royal penis, able to eat Doritos all day long without getting fat, new video games the day before release, the best wave pool ever. We don't get that so why shouldn't we live a little here on Earth?

But for all that Jesus freaks seem to imply to the contrary, Jesus don't strike me as being no kind of Socialist.

Jesus Christ! For being an actor? Sick society. Yeah, give him a nice living, sure. But such opulence? We can see how out of whack is this whole system. And people whine about making sure inner city children eat breakfast. link
