Have you ever heard of Elevation Worship or Steve Furtick? I had not, but he has a Wikipedia page.
Last week, I was looking at the upcoming events at a local sports venue. I noticed that Elevation Worship, with Steve Furtick, will be there next week. The photo shows a bunch of singers. Do people go for the music or the religious experience? Lead pastor, Steve Furtick looks (and dresses) like a sports figure. He/They are sold out in Columbus, Ohio. Last week, the cheapest seats in my area were $50. Seats near the stage were selling for $100+.
This makes me think of former science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard’s quote: "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wanted to make a million dollars, he'd start his own religion."
