l love that BA chart. Here's the great thing about Rod Carew. I believe he played 19 seasons. The first 18 seasons he made the all star game. Must have been weird that last year he played to not be at the all star game. Imagine making the all star game the first 18 seasons you play.

About half are dead.
Only Bench averaged 100 plus RBI. Only Foster had a 50+ HR season.

Yeah.....I think that SO much of what he did at the plate just became commonplace and expected, that most of us never quite realized what we were seeing at the time. I grew up in that era, and remember WELL how Rod Carew made a habit out of having such OBSCENELY gaudy batting averages every season, that we rarely ever thought twice about it! It was only when (on the rare occasions) that his batting average was more "average", that THAT was when we started paying attention to it!! That said, it's amazing to look at this now and realize that Rod Carew hit (close to) .350, not just for a season, BUT FOR AN ENTIRE DECADE !! SAVE FERRIS

I do love these kinds of sites, but of course it really helps when your career falls squarely in one decade - - the guy whose career goes from 1965 to 1975 is never found.
With that being said, look at home runs and look at Hank Aaron. Of the top 24 home run hitters of the 1970s, everyone had at least 1000 games played (Sal Bando had 1527) - - except for Aaron who had 872. Aaron played in 607 fewer games than Carl Yastrzemeski in the 1970s but had one fewer home run!
Somehow, Aaron was that great AND he's still underrated.

It's 100% true, Aaron is regarded as one of the greatest and is still underrated. In my book, he is the absolute GOAT. Take away all his home runs, he still has 3000 hits. The guy never had a bad season and he had a long career. I still look at his stats now and then just to be impressed at what a stud he was. I collect his autos, some of my most valuable cards.

I've got a picture of he and I on a polaroid from the late 90s somewhere, I know I still have it, I've just got to find it. A stud and also a great signer

And that was the thing with Aaron. A 40 HR, 110 RBI, .330 BA season for Henry Louis Aaron was par for the course. Yawn. He on;y won one MVP (1957) but finished in the top 10 in incredible 13 times. And top 20 an incredible 19 times (every year from 1955 to 1973). Sadly, it wasn't until 1973 when he finally got noticed, when he was going to break Ruth's 714 lifetime home runs. And he stole 240 bases, not bad for a power hitter. And he did everything with class and quiet dignity.
It's a shame someone had to piss on his all-time HR record. Better living through chemistry.

If i didn't know baseball and just looked at the chart, I'd swear Dave Kingman was a better player than Mike Schmidt, but we ALL know that would be laughable!

I'm glad that most people don't recognize Bonds as the home run king and it will be that way forever. I do believe someone will break Aaron's record legit but until then, he's the king.

Today's GMs would LOVE Kingman (but every generation should love Schmidt). Seriously, when I guy like Mike Zunio, who hits .189 and hits 30 knocks makes AN ALL STAR TEAM, Kingman would be a super hero today. I still remember back in 88, the A's were deciding whether they wanted Jackson or Kingman. jackson was pretty much done but Kingman had just hit .210 and like 30 hr and 100 rbis and they went with Jackson. I do believe Kingman could have hit 500 home runs.

I don't have that big of an issue with the all time HR mark. 755 was breakable as is 762. Won't happen in my lifetime but it might someday. Unlike 73 homers in one season. No one will ever break that abomination. There's a better chance of seeing a pitcher win 61 games in a season or striking out 514 batters in a season. The juicers shit all over baseball's most iconic record. I hope Roger Maris' ghost haunts them bums.

Especially if they keep using the humidifier on balls like they're doing now, which I hope they do forever. Let's make the home run special again. When I was a kid hitting 20 was a big deal, now every .220 hitter in the league hits 20.
