Currently sitting at 71% in RT. That's... quite surprising. While I was expecting this movie to have issues, I didn't expect it to be the 4th lowest ranked MCU movie. I gave up on the Tomatometer ages ago. Critics are jaded beasts who take themselves too seriously. I've see reviews about difficult to follow films that led me to believe the critic spent half the movie in the bathroom. The popcorn side is the one that matters far more. Those people who pay for their seats.

Apparently the first cut was four hours long.
Release the Taika cut! Now I'm curious what was cut out.

Fresh is fresh. Still probably won't watch it. The Marvel fatigue is real.

Now I'm curious what was cut out. Grace Randolph said it was mostly a bunch of improvised lines and jokes by the cast. But still, if they went from 4 hours to under 2 hours, there must have been some meaty part taken out as well.

But I was a child in the 60s. I learned to accept what was presented as long as it stuck to the universe rules. If Hobbits can't fly in 3 books, then suddenly sprout wings, they had better do some serious explaining. GB16 was an alternate universe/dimension.

Actually, I don't expect Great Cinema from Marvel. I expect to be entertained. I don't expect it to change my outlook on life. I see it in 4.5 hours.

Actually, I don't expect comedy from Marvel, and I'm pretty sure most fans don't as well. I expect action-adventure movies with a good amount of humor that make them fun but aren't quite comedies. If this movie is an actual, full-on comedy (as what the trailers seem to indicate) then that explains why it's turning off so many viewers, even critics.

Now I'm curious what was cut out. Scenes confirmed to be cut featured Cameos from Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum, where their characters are killed by Gorr I have not seen the movie yet, but I definitely think these two scenes should’ve stayed in.

No. Jane Foster having Stage 4 cancer isn't played for laughs. There is a lot of humor, but the last half is as serious as any Marvel flick. I'm sitting at an 8 right now which in my rating is a B. I will see it Tuesday again with my sister. Below Ragnarok. I think the humor at the start was excessive, like seeing how far he could push it. Some scenes were very hammy. After the kids are kidnapped, we get more serious. Still jokes, but this is where the humor tones down. I'm sure some of the distaste is Korg's relating how his race makes babies (there are apparently no rock women). It seems any LGBTQ stuff gets trashed by the fanboys

But I’m curious if the cosmic mythology is treated with any seriousness here or just played for laughs. I read that one of the “gods” is a talking dumpling which sounds dumber than shit. Also I know that Eternity is in it and I’m really hoping he’s as cool as he should be, and not a joke character.

This was frustrating for me to watch. Frustrating because it could have been a great movie if they only toned down the humor a bit.
It had a lot of great things going for it but the humor was so excessively stupid that it made me feel like I was watching Ace Ventura or Zohan at points. Hard to appreciate good things in a movie when it's being played like a parody. Hard for me to praise a Thor movie when Thor himself is made into a joke.
Had they dialed back the humor even to just Ragnarok level and lengthened the movie by about 15 mins then this would easily be a top tier MCU movie. As it is, I'd rate it low-mid tier.

But I suspect a Pikachu nature. Sweet until...BOOM! Eternity is not really...Its like the fortune telling machine in Big.

Honestly that thing actually took me out of the scene because i couldn't believe they put it in the movie. It was really distracting for me.

This movie could’ve been a good opportunity to expand the MCU’s cosmic world building but it sounds like it’s all treated as a parody. James Gunn obviously puts a lot of humor in his movies, but to his credit he also had respect for the greater mythology in regard to the Kree, Infinity Stones and Celestials. I guess Taikia just doesn’t give a fuck.

Even stuff that was established in Ragnarok seems to have been thrown out the window, nevermind all of the past Thor and Avengers movies.

Short runtime seems to be a major complaint here, just as it was with Dr Strange MoM. I wonder if the Eternals critical reaction made Feige overcompensate by trying to make the movies shorter and faster paced. That would certainly be a dumb strategy because the long runtime isn’t even what made Eternals feel slow.
