As i was fixing myself an ice water for the millionteenth time in my life I stopped for a second and wondered how other people get the ice out of the tray?
I always twist it to free the ice and then do this little sharp lift to one side or the other to get the ice out of its hole and hopefully crooked or on top of the other cubes. I'm sure there are more practical ways that eliminate the potential for ice falling onto the floor but I have been doing this for over 30 years so I probably wont stop now.

I treat the ice trays the same as you do. Sometimes doing that I long for the metal ice trays of my childhood where all you had to do was to pull up the handle to loosen every ice cube.

Smack the bottom of the tray against the counter or table. That will get some of the cubes loose.

People still use trays? I get mine straight from the fridge.

People still use trays? I get mine straight from the fridge. I’ve never had a fridge with an ice machine that worked. Although if I get a new fridge I’ll probably consider it. But I’d need to get a water line close.

Most of my cubes are a little overflowed in the tray, so when I do the little twist, there's corner breakage to lift from.
Also - I usually start with a strong twist & a bounce, to throttle out the easy ones.

I haven't used, or even seen, the metal trays, with a lever "release," for years. And, I've never opted for an automatic ice dispenser in a 'fridge. I like the (I guess) silicone trays, with the deep cubed dimension. At first, I thought that is was difficult to release them. But, I found the solution: -- Remove the tray from the freezer, and place it at an angle, on something like a cutting board. Visual: One end of the tray is on the counter, and the other end is just above the cutting board. -- Allow room temperature air to flow around the tray FOR 4 MINUTES. (No approximation, here. ) -- A gentle push, from the bottom of the cube/s desired, will release them, with ease. Once you have released two/three, you don't have to repeat the 4-minute regimen. The walls of the tray cubes will have relaxed enough to allow easy release for the rest of the tray. I always keep two trays in the freezer.

I just twist the tray. I have two, except one doesn’t work well and it ends up breaking the cubes apart, leaving portions of ice stuck in the tray.

Apart from the inbuilt ice tray in the freezer, I also use rubbery plastic ice trays.
So a minor twist or gentle tap against the benchtop normally does the job.

One could always resort to a small dab of C4 in extreme cases.

Shake it a little bit to see if any cubes are loose, and if not, bend it slightly and figure it out from there.
