I love me some early 1980s John Carpenter and was eager to snag the 4K release from Shout Factory. The picture quality is a pretty stellar representation of Dead Cundey's photography, which itself deserves plenty of credit; with so much of the film taking place at night in a blacked out city, I can only imagine how much of a challenge it was to properly light.
When the score, by Carpenter and Alan Howarth, kicks in over the opening credits, I'm like "Fuck, yeah."
We don't need a remake but I am intrigued when Angel Eyes mentions Snake fighting in Leningrad and Siberia.
Did The Duke think if he made it over the wall he'd be okay?
Adrienne Barbeau in that dress. Yes, please.
Is everyone in NYC a criminal or some there just because? Is Cabbie there for some heinous crime?
Some of the visual effects, like Snake making his way to the top of the World Trade Center, still look pretty good.
Yes, that is Jim Cameron creating a matte painting.

I love me some early 1980s John Carpenter - with you.
When the score, by Carpenter and Alan Howarth, kicks in over the opening credits, I'm like "Fuck, yeah." - ditto
Adrienne Barbeau in that dress. Yes, please. - she does look yummy.
Is Cabbie there for some heinous crime? - I think he was there for hideous overcharging .
Great, great music.... Big fan....I just picked up John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's soundtrack of Christine for like 33p for my archives. Result .

I've seen it twice and it's fine but it doesn't really leave a lasting impression on me the way his other 80s flicks do.
As for a remake, isn't that basically what Metal Gear Solid is?

I have always had mixed feelings about most of John Carpenter's movies and this is no exception. I think the first half is interesting, but it loses my interest somewhere in the second half.
I prefer Escape from L.A., as it just embraces it's own ridiculousness.

I always had it in my head that Cabbie was just an actual NYC cabdriver who got left behind and went crazy.

I did not care for it first time I watched it. Was expecting a balls to the wall action movie. Future viewings allowed me to appreciate it more especially knowing it’s a low budget film and it is more about atmosphere and mood.
