...to be brother and sister was a good idea? Lucas didn't originally intend for that and I don't think he decided to write that in until ROTJ. I guess it was the only way Lucas could think of to get Skywalker to try and kill Vader (after Vader reveals he would try to convert his sister to the dark side, he loses it and tries to kill Vader). But of course there's the creepy incest angle that still lingers from the previous films as a result.

It was a bad idea at first because it seemingly comes out nowhere. It makes a wide universe seem even smaller if your main characters are so close in familial relationships. I can buy Leia is Force sensitive as hinted in The Empire Strikes Back, but I wish George Lucas did create a new female character instead of selecting Leia. Now that we have a prequel trilogy that has explained why they were separated at birth, I can accept it.
EDIT: Also, Lucas wrote Leia to be Luke's sister because he had to explain what Yoda meant by "There is another". Originally, Luke's sister was to be a new character that Luke would meet in the earliest concepts of the "sequel trilogy". However, The Empire Strikes Back proved to be a chaotic production that he scrapped plans for a sequel trilogy. He then decided to end the series with Return of the Jedi and make Leia Luke's sister to close that plot line.

I think it was an awful idea and it hasn't really grown on me. I suspect part of it was to write themselves out of the love triangle with no hard feelings, but why not? Luke should be tempted by the dark side and joining his father. If Leia chose Han over him, at least there'd be a little more suspense over him turning his back on them.

It’s said and done. But yeah it’s kind of odd.

Not the best of ideas at first, but it's grown on me.

I am fine with them being siblings.
Was it a mistake ?.
I don`t think its my place to say whether or not George Lucas made a mistake.

After Empire, he probably needed another plot twist. Luke and Leia as siblings must've seemed like a decent idea at the time.

Makes one wonder... For every person that ever kissed their parents or siblings or relatives or parents even kissing their children goodnight... Were they committing INCEST? Afterall, they KNEW that the other person they were kissing... were family... INCEST?

Uh no, there was IMPLIED incest, there's no getting around that. Luke was attracted to her in the first one, they made out in the second. If Han wasn't in the picture and attracted Leia away from Luke, who knows how far they would have taken it (do you really wanna go there?). Luke not knowing Leia is sister is irrelevant to whether is counts as incest.

Uh that's not the same thing and you know it, is there an implied sexual attraction when a parent kisses their child? If a man nuzzles a woman breast is that the same thing as a woman breastfeeding her baby? You're being very dissingenous and I think you know it.

Luke & Leia didn't know they were related to each other in Empire Strikes Back.

So no not incest But French kissing i would say is incest.

Incest is when you kiss or have sex with someone that related to you. They didn't know they were related to each other... NO ONE new until Return of the Jedi came out... So it wasn't incest when the film came out, and it certainly was NEVER "implied".

How does this contradict what I said? "They didn't know they were related to each other..." That has nothing to do with incest, whether or not two relatives knowingly have sex with one another is irrelevant to the actual defintion of "incest". You can look it up yourself. "and it certainly was NEVER "implied"." Uh Leia and Luke made out in the second one, which IMPLIES sexual attraction, if Han wasn't a factor, well again who knows how far they would have taken it. Do you really wanna die on this hill?
