I refer to my esteemed colleague -
But seriously, the movie is a lumbering mess. You have two converging stories - One about mutant locust in a plot to control the world's food supply and the other regarding a human clone from the previous movie. I barely remember Fallen Kingdom so the clone story line was a bit lost on me. It is definitely welcome to have the leads from 30 years ago return but nostalgia only goes so far. My biggest disappointment comes from the movie never really tackling the enormous deal that is humans and dinosaurs living together. Frankly, everyone seems perfectly adapted to such an environment.

Definitely a miss. Colin Trevorow just isn't a very good filmmaker, with his Book of Henry ass.

From what I have read it sounds like one of the most blatant cases of bait and switch ever. Trailer and all marketing sells the movie as entirely about dinosaurs running around civilization causing chaos, but it sounds like this is just background stuff.

Calling it background stuff is being generous. It's barely a blip in the movie at the beginning, then really isn't addressed again at all.

I’m not planning on seeing Jurassic World: Dominion in theaters, especially in light of all the negative reviews. But Matt Zoller Seitz’s review at rogerebert.com interested me enough that I want to see it on DVD/streaming. While Seitz’s review is negative, the way he describes Campbell Scott’s and Jeff Goldblum’s performances got me intrigued:He’s also good at explaining what goes wrong and why this series entry isn’t as good as those by Spielberg. That’s why I like Seitz: He actually does his job—y’know, critiquing movies—instead of just writing plot synopses, as every other rogerebert.com “critic” (*cough* Brian Tallerico *cough*) does.

Is it still worth seeing if I know going in it's going to be bad?

Is it still worth seeing if I know going in it's going to be bad? I guess if you can see it on a discount night, if any theaters in your area have those.

a mess but a fun mess overall I'd say
some terrible moments mixed in with some awesome ones (the Malta sequence)
though there are some interesting ideas here but they are not given full potential with this weak script and terrible editing
the legacy characters were treated decently enough though (though Grant felt like he was in the background a bit too much) . At least they didn't completely tear down the originals like Star Wars did. Hell I wish we had seen Lex and Tim as well. and maybe things like Malcolm mentioning Sarah and Kelly

There's two movies going on - a pleasant little sequel to the original, and the continued diminishing returns of the World saga. Can't deny it was cool seeing Dern, Goldblum, and poor Neill (who went from first billed to last) finally share the screen again, not to mention the return of Dodgeson and his shaving cream can. But anytime we cut back to the newer characters it was snoozeville. And the message was kind of bullshit and flies in the face of everything Malcolm said in the first film.

Ok so I just saw this today. Overall...I enjoyed it but it was really a huge mess. I felt like there was just way too much happening at all times with too many characters. It was great seeing Neil, Dern and Goldblum again, and they didn't disappoint.
The first half was curious to me because it really didn't feel like a Jurassic Park movie, with all the business in Malta. It felt more like some espionage thriller like Mission: Impossible.

Yeah the Malta sequence had a total MI feel. My kids liked it okay but my youngest turned to my wife while we were watching it and said this movie doesn’t make a lot of sense. She’s seen all the prior ones and was totally engaged but for this one I could see the confusion/boredom setting in during some sequences. It reminded me that the last film set up a pretty compelling future story with Dino’s and humans trying to co exist but then it went and made it total background with an evil bio tech company run by someone that looks like Tim Cook from Apple and huge locusts. Too many subplots even with the long running time. I did like the Dimetrodons.
