I'm not. The trailers seem pretentious and the whole concept feels cynical to me.

Looks fun, I'm in. I was surprised at the joke the second trailer ends with. I doubt there will be a ton of stuff like that in the film, but it looks enjoyable either way.

Not really. I was once a huge Pixar fan but they’ve officially lost the magic. This is an obvious cart before horse idea. A bunch of execs brainstormed how to milk Toy Story without making Toy Story 5 and this is what they came up with.

I love Pixar, but this movie doesn't really interest me.

A bunch of execs brainstormed how to milk Toy Story without making Toy Story 5 and this is what they came up with. The same can be said of every sequel/prequel/spinoff ever. That's why any of them (other than planned trilogies) exist; someone sat down and said, "People really like [property X], how can we make more money off of that idea?" Lightyear is no different. I've never seen a Toy Story movie, and I think this looks decent. I tend to look at things more from the creative aspect, I guess. Someone said, "Imagine Buzz Lightyear was real, what would that story be like?" And we get a fun little space adventure out of it. Seems more interesting than a bunch of talking toys sitting around. Most movies are cash grabs, we only seem to focus on it when we don't like the concept. Only then does the project become 'cynical.' No more or less cynical than Oscar bait films. I can't think of a stranger concept than competitive art. It seems, I don't know, anti-art. But you know what, there are Oscar bait movies that end up being great, too. Like I said, I try not to focus on the machinations behind the project, I'd rather focus on the final product. If the quality is there and the whole thing comes together, the impetus, no matter how calculated it may be at times, is irrelevant to me.

Given the huge decline in quality at Pixar over the years it’s hard for me to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. And this concept just never really seemed interesting to me personally. I don’t see the point of it. This Lightyear is basically a new character and the name is there only to guarantee today’s coveted IP appeal. Also, you should watch the Toy Story movies. They’re some of the best animated movies ever made.

You will thank us later.

No. No. No. I’ll even offer to drive him to Blockbuster!

Then you missed that scene with Woody and his horse that inspired Blue Is the Warmest Color. Your son probably has a lot of questions you should talk to him about.

i was, but its not great is “ok” at best. lacks something. humor/soul/more likeable characters maybe. too bad. 5/10 sounds about right.
