If that is in fact what they're going to do, it would be a good opportunity to hearken back to the darker movie musicals that were made in the 70s and 80s (Cabaret, Pennies From Heaven etc.), in the same way that Joker (2019) hearkened back to films like Network and The King of Comedy.

I’m warming to the idea, but it’ll depend how much of a “musical” it is. If every line is sung, it’ll be really interesting to see if they can pull it off.
If there are just a few musical numbers scattered throughout, I think it risks being too polarizing in style.
A part of me thinks they might just choreograph movement and edit to the rhythm of a background song more than make a traditional musical (kind of like what Wright did with Baby Driver).
No matter what, it should be interesting.
