Yes, there is a monsoon season in New Mexico from Mid June to the end of September which often causes a lot of cancellations of events at the Balloon Fiesta. When we first moved to Albuquerque, the Balloon Fiesta had 1,000 balloons going up but they had to reduce the number when much of the western end of the city got built up with subdivisions. We never went, we could get a fantastic view from the parking lot of the Sandia Casino and we had a few run of course and hove over ouir house which was at the beginning of the foothills.

My husband planted them and they are now about 2" diameter. They've been in the ground about 3 1/2 months. I began eating them this week. I tried a few smaller last week and they were too bitter. I have about 80 in the ground. One was starting to get a wilted top. I'm trying to use them. I don't know how to store that many. Thanks for asking!!

Enigma - I found this information.
What do you do with red onions after harvest? Image result for storing red onions from garden Keep the onions dry with good air circulation so they don't rot. As the onions cure, the roots shrivel and the necks dry out. Allow the onions to cure for seven to ten days and then either braid the tops for storage or remove the tops and roots with pruning shears.
Do red onions store well? They generally won't store well. So you may want to chop them up and freeze them for later use if you have a lot of onions that flowered. Once onions that didn't flower are ready to pick, pull the onion and leave it in the sun for a few days to cure.

fwiw ... "flowering onions" are putting energy into the flowers instead of into the bulbs ... I always remove the flower stalk. Flowering is usually a result of the sets being kept too cold in storage before you buy them or a cold snap after planting.
Just used the first three from this year's planting. Something they just called "sweet" ... no Vidalia label. Nothing special !
Tops are falling over waaaay sooner than normal and one was a tad rotten despite it not being real wet !
