Great character actor. Great musician too. May the Schwartz be with you!

I know him most from Memento. Great character in that movie.
I also know him as the boss in Single White Female who sexually assaults Bridget Fonda's character and Ned in Groundhog Day.
I have seen him in many more things (including Spaceballs), but can't think of them at the moment.

I'm glad you mentioned 'Single White Female' as that's where I would say I first became a fan and really took notice. He was really creepy in that movie. Around that time, my favourite American character actor was probably James Rebhorn, I'd watch a movie if he was in it.

Don't care much for James Rebhorn, though he is great at playing assholes.

I see this a lot here with posts about people of a certain age; I can only speak for myself, but being conscious of this, I always put R.I.P. in the title bar if someone has died. I don't intend to cause alarm, just to celebrate a veteran's career.

Jim Beaver* worked with Stephen in In Country and spoke highly of him as an actor and as a person. * Bobby on Supernatural .. second on left next to Stephen Tobolowsky

Being a big fan of playwright Beth Henley, I love this picture I accidentally stumbled upon this week of her with her muse Stephen Tobolowsky (I've included pictures to accompany it of Henley's trusted collaborator Holly Hunter and her friend Carol Kane - another key collaborator has been Sissy Spacek).

Tor Eckman on an episode of Seinfeld. For one scene, that was his show.

He's like the modern-day Richard Deacon. Looks and sounds just like him and plays the exact same type of roles.

In addition to Memento and Groundhog Day, I remember him as the anal-retentive guy in Sneakers that Mary McDonnell is forced to go on a date with. He was also the boss of psycho villain Sam Neill in John Carpenter’s Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

I've not seen this made-for-television movie directed by Gregory Hoblit, but Stephen Tobolowsky was in 'Roe Vs. Wade' (1989) with old friends Holly Hunter and Amy Madigan. I shall look out for it.
