Happy 96th Birthday (well, yesterday) and thanks for all the laughs from the movies, the TV shows, and even the recent PSAs, which were also funny, if dark (the anti-COVID one with his son and the anti-Orange Plague one with his son and grandson).

 (yesterday) Mel Brooks is as nice, as he is funny and creative. I once bought lunch for him (technically, he gave me the money, and bought a sandwich to-go). He was on a promotional tour for High Anxiety, and was going to be interviewed on a radio program that I was producing. It was 1:00. He said that he was very hungry, and asked if someone could get a sandwich for him. There was only one really near-by place. We were in a long news break, and I said I'd be happy to do it. I also told him that, while much of the staff ate there, it was a kind of a "greasy spoon." He said: " Excellent ... they're the best!" He wanted a chicken salad sandwich, and was very happy. Fun memory. |
