In the new series "Strange New Worlds" there is a secondary character who is supposed to be Captain Kirk's brother. Has there ever been any reference to Kirk having a brother (also in Starfleet) before? It's been a VERY long time since I've watched any TOS episode, and I have never read any Star Trek books.
In the episode, the crew of the Enterprise must find a way to exterminate behavior-altering parasites that have taken over the bodies of residents of a Federation colony, including Captain Kirk's brother, Sam, and family.
In the Kelvin Timeline, you also see where the kid James T Kirk passes (in the stolen corvette) that's hitchhiking, is Jim's elder brother, Sam. If I remember correctly, he married and had a couple sons before he died (in the Prime universe) and yes, was played by Shatner-in-a-mustache. I'm still slightly amused that they didn't choose to go that route and have Sam/Jim played by the same actor, just with/without the 'stache.
