Key Quote: Goldstein: “We set out to make a movie that was for everyone, not just the fans. We wanted the fans to love it, so there’s plenty of Easter eggs and references, but if you don’t know the game at all, you won’t miss anything.” Daley: “The challenge was creating that balance, of tonally and being able to give the fan service that it’s due, but also standing on its own without any prior knowledge of dungeons or dragons.” Page: “We have the privilege of having a very, very sharp, intelligent thoroughly unpredictable cast of very talented characters, which meant that each take would spark off in different directions.” deadline.com/video/dungeons-and-dragons-honor-among-thieves-sxsw-studio/

From what little I remember, that had been one of the complaints about the movie they made 20ish years back (The one with Thora Birch & Jeremy Irons), that it leaned too heavily on the game/lore and wasn't something people who'd never played and barely knew what D&D was, could follow. I watched it as a kid and enjoyed it, but I also never heard of D&D before that movie came out.

"We didn't plant any seeds," Jonathan Goldstein told ComicBook.com on the Red Carpet at the film's premiere. "But if we're lucky enough to make another one, then I think there's so many places to go. We've created these great characters who we would love to see where they are in a year or two." Daley added, "We're also very superstitious. So we don't like to talk about it. "

I hate being a Debbie Downer but this trailer didn't excite me for the movie. I felt like it showed the best scenes and wasn't that great.

At the high-end, it’s a hopeful $65M global start.

Bomb , even if pretty good, budget says 400m worldwide is needed , won't happen at that number

i didnt really like it and its hard to say why… somewhat boring, i felt like it lacked in character depth and was full of voiceovers that werent really needed?

I enjoyed D & D. Felt like Guy Ritchie directed it. Way, way better than that stupid 2001 movie with Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans.

I went in with very low expectations and at the beginning was actually thinking 'what am I doing here?', starts out slow, but once it picks up, WOW. Far far better than I expected it'd be.

So why did it flop at the box office?
