Yes & no. They're racing machines, it is what it is. Though they do look less conventional than they did 20yrs ago or so.
I always wished there was some season long award for fastest cumulative time around all the circuits - as near as we'll ever see a pro global race. I would not diminish the driver's standings & crown, yet I would award he who drove the quickest adding up all the countries they race in.

When I used to follow F1 closely (in the 90s), when the season started there would often be big design changes and the new cars would always look weird for a couple of races. Then that would pass, and then when you saw highlights from the year before they'd always look weird.
Looking at the pics of the cars this season, I dunno, they just look like F1 cars to me.

To me, they look great because of what they represent - power, agility ( try to avoid the armcos at Monaco ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ), speed, weaving especially during overtaking, etc! The first time I had seen the scarlet car of the Prancing Horse ( aka Ferrari) in Monaco years back - I thought I would burst with excitement ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I am a big F-1 fan so maybe I have a skewed viewpoint - LOL!

I always thought of an Indy car as a definitive race car. The only race we watched all year was the Indy 500. No one north of the Mason-Dixon gave a rat's posterior about NASCAR.

I really like this years F1 cars. The low and wide chassis with very wide tires are cool. Although, at Monaco it was more of a parade than ever because of the wider cars. I had to get used to the very high rear wing a few years ago, but I loved the bigger front wing right away.

The cars were showing off at Monaco this year -- the livery of the cars looked glinting in the sun. I wished Kimi had won, given the beauty of his qualifying race the day before but I guess the strategies for Vettel and Ricciardo worked very well for them. The challenge in Monaco is not so much watching if someone would be able to overtake another ... but watching how to miss the armcos (which are all ready to bump into each car which is within whispering distance ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ). Bottas highlighted how it is a very mentally-demanding circuit where the driver's attention and skill must always be there ( every moment!). I do love Monaco- I have seen the races there twice -- but there is something that one misses if one is simply watching it on TV. The sound of the engines reverberating against the tall buildings in the principality is music to the ears of every racing fan -- it is very different! Plus the Mediterranean on one side makes it a really special place to race ( and party) in Of course the controversy and brouhaha raised for that race ( Were hidden team orders made to work?) is beyond the scope of this topic -- but it is still being discussed on many forums. I wonder if the specific characteristics of Monaco ( not allowing overtaking even for lead cars to get by lapped cars) made any hidden strategies easier to work?
