I guess you mean MAGNET*IC* MONSTER - it's a fun little film, an interesting sci-fi concept. No gore or sex tho - in fact, the heroine is only just a nominal presence. Sure, why not buy it.

I've not seen 'The Magnetic Monster' but I'd personally be inclined to take a punt at a reasonable (ie. reasonably low) price. Director Curt Siodmak and uncredited director Herbert Strock carry strong genre credentials and Richard Carlson is a reliable lead.

I saw it on TCM last year. It has an interesting concept. I'll probably buy it because I love 50's sci-fi.

I have no idea how sound the science cited is, but as 50's sci-fi goes, The Magnetic Monster is comparatively cerebral (don't let the opening comedy relief sequence mislead you) and low key. The grave threat to existence is almost entirely conceptual (as opposed to a menacing, visible creature), and a great deal of location work gives it an air of authenticity. It even prefigures The X-Files, which came along 40 years later, with its dedicated government unit (the OSI, or Office Of Scientific Investigation) devoted to unexplained phenomena. With the right expectations, it's rather satisfying overall despite its modest aspirations and presentation, and there's some fun to be had along the way spotting familiar faces like those of Kathleen Freeman and Strother Martin, among others.
