Gonna be honest, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet. Years later sequels have long since become the norm in Hollywood, so why not? People like Brendan Fraser anyway.

Might be a good way to reinvigorate the franchise after the Mummy Tom Cruise disaster.

Well he's been getting a lot of attention lately thanks to "The Whale", so maybe this is his oppurtunity to make a comeback

Eh, I like Brendan Fraser, but would he be able to get in shape in time for a new Mummy film? The earlier movies took their toll on his physical health when he was in better shape.

Let's be honest, he weighs about 250lbs now. It would be hard to see him as an action hero.

If he loses some of that weight then we'll see.

always thought it was a missed opportunity for Universal to not use the Fraser Mummy series to kickstart the Universal Monster Universe by having Rick O'Connell and go up and against Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman in future adventures. Rick and Evie could have been the adventurer versions of Ed and Lorraine Warren

Rick and Evie could have been the adventurer versions of Ed and Lorraine Warren I like the idea, but I’ve never seen the ’99 Mummy as a horror flick—or even, despite the title, as much of a monster flick. I’ve always seen it more as an Indiana Jones takeoff that happens to have a monster—and though that may seem like splitting hairs, I think it spends more time on the Indiana Jones aspects than on the monster aspects.

It would be a cool idea if they disguised a sequel as a remake. Recast an O Connel as the action hero lead. Have him go through all the shenanigans and then at the end during the post action cool down his dad comes over and it’s Brendan Frasier and he gets to say something snappy implying this is the O Connel from the previous Mummy films.
I’m sure a writer could make that a better scene but I know I’d enjoy it. Especially if I didn’t know it was coming.

I wonder if they'll bring his son back. Apparently the actor was signed on for a new trilogy.

Dracula: "Igor, do unto others.."
Igor: "Before they do unto me!"
The problem with O'Connell is that he is too successful--which is a rare thing by the 1990s. He's comical but he fits the matinee idol type of presentation and Hollywood really hated that by 1999. He was cutting up the mummies to little effect but he kept his cool.
Oded Fehr would have been good for Sinbad or his own separate movies with the Magi cult guys.
The Scorpion King was ok but they missed better options for series with the other cast members.

There was supposed to be a fourth one with Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford. Antonio Banderas was supposed to play the villain.
It was called The Mummy: Rise of the Aztecs.
I would rather see them continue this series than the garbage Tom Cruise one.
All Fraser needs to do is lose some weight and grow his hair. Maybe wear some wigs or something and he'll be good to go.
