I watched a great favorite yesterday The Fallen Sparrow. A minor story arc is the kid cousin of one of the hero’s friends, who is trying to make as a cabaret singer. She sings a lovely song ( dubbed by Martha Mears ) called Beware. It reappears at the end as a mad Gypsy dance performed by Fely FRanquelli. With rapid cutting the scene is full of anxiety.
it made me wonder about song and or dance numbers that played a pivotal role in a non musical film. I will suggest a few later.

Reinlistment Blues from FROM HERE TO ETERNITY Fred Astaire & Jennifer Jones THE TOWERING INFERNO - maybe not "pivotal" but adds to the poignancy of their story strand and gives us Fred's last on screen dancing. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY Julie Christie , Laurence Harvey and assorted swingers in DARLING dancing to The Breakaways as a prelude to a spot of partner swapping "Are They watching us?" we are, we are....... Lizabeth Scott croons a mournful nightclub ballad "Either It's Love or It Isn't" in Dead Reckoning (1947). The smokey singing voice belongs to Trudy Stevens.
