She was incredible as Nurse Ratched. It was an Oscar well deserved. Unfortunately, I never watched much of her other roles. May she rest in peace.

R.I.P. Would it be weird and creepy to watch Brainstorm (1983) right now? Her character dies and the machine records her journey to the "afterlife"...

Outstanding performance as Nurse Ratched; cold, evil and calculating. She definitely deserved her Oscar. Sadly, it seemed that Cuckoo's Nest didn't open the door for better opportunities for her. She did have steady work after that, but it was supporting roles in lesser movies. Then it was mostly TV work. She should have moved on to better things. Perhaps Exorcist II didn't do her career any favors.
RIP

It seems a shame that this excellent actor is "known" for only one role ..but What a role it was !
Her speech at the Oscars that year:

I hope it's not weird and creepy to watch Brainstorm, as I started rewatching it to better participate in the quote thread you started. I'm considering your thread a fitting tribute to Louise Fletcher!

R.I.P. Would it be weird and creepy to watch Brainstorm (1983) right now? Her character dies and the machine records her journey to the "afterlife"... R.I.P. I hope it's not weird and creepy to watch Brainstorm, as I started rewatching it to better participate in the quote thread you started. I'm considering your thread a fitting tribute to Louise Fletcher! I couldn't stop thinking about the film, and how I could do a movie quote thread on it... So, I went ahead and watched it to do the quote thread... I just was thinking, that I could hardly think of any actors, that played a character that died on film, and we see their (permanent) journey to the afterlife... And for those rare few actors that have, I couldn't think of any instances of when I knew the actor died, that I could instantly watch a film they were in, where their character died and went on the afterlife journey... You know, watching the fictional journey, at the same time, as the actor was experiencing whatever final journey they were on... that kind of thing. That's what I was wondering if it would be weird or creepy... Even, though it seemed like a once in a lifetime unique opportunity... But the journey isn't so personally detailed in the film as it could have been. It's just afterlife images, without seeing Louise Fletcher's character interacting with them. So, it could be anyone taking that journey.
