Joan Crawford has her best sympathetic role of the '50s in "Autumn Leaves." Crawford is an older woman who marries a younger man, Cliff Robertson, who turns out to have mental issues. Director Robert Aldrich tells the story with style and sensitivity; Joan gives a restrained performance and works well with newcomer Robertson; and Lorne Greene and Vera Miles give great support as Cliff's "loving" family. unless you count THE STORY OF ESTHER COSTELLO this was Joanie's last romantic lead, worth watching - love the bit where Robertson tries to brain her with the typewriter Try FEMALE ON THE BEACH from a year earlier
