LeBron has got to be up there. The vitriol he receives is truly stunning, the ecstasy displayed when he loses is baffling, and the fury demonstrated when he wins is side-splitting.

 Jackie Robinson No explanation needed.  Joe Namath He had the legitimacy and fate of an entire league placed on his shoulders. And what did he do in the championship game (Super Bowl III)? He guaranteed victory, placing even more pressure and scrutiny upon himself. And he didn’t choke. He delivered.  David Beckham He got bated into retaliation in a World Cup match and got red carded. He got blamed by many in his nation for the loss and got so hounded and scrutinized that he eventually left to play in the USA.  Wilt Chamberlain Despite his legendary accomplishments and multitude of records (some of which will never be broken) he is still scrutinized to this day. Some critics diminish his place in history because of his few championships even though he never had a coach the caliber of Auerbach nor was he surrounded with teammates as talented as on the Boston Celtics. All of these guys had it tougher than Ben Simmons.

It has to be Lebron. But he kind of brought it on to himself with the trades and whatnot.
Colin Keapernick is another one that gets plenty of scrutiny. But he also brought it on to himself.
I do remember when not a day would go by when you didn't hear the words "Big Papi" on ESPN. David Ortiz generated a lot of talk too. But he was never a controversial figure.

I mean seriously - ESPN talks about him airballing a shot in practice?
