I sucks that Disney is trying to sweep this movie under the rug and pretending it doesn't exist. almost every one in the united states knows about this movie. Most people in this country have already seen it online or they have the European version like i do. I have heard many times that Disney does not want to release it because they are afraid of the backlash they will get. Why would people wait till the movie gets released to backlash it why not backlash it now. If people wait till it gets released to backlash it they are just like Disney pretending like it doesn't exist. Disney should just release it and get it over with. in about 10 or 15 years Disney will lose the rights any way then the full version will get released by some one else

It's been years since I've seen it, I had it taped off the tv as a child but the video no longer works. It's no more 'racist' than Gone with the Wind and Dumbo supposedly are, so what are Disney afraid of? From what I remember it's about a former slave who is happy, not sure how that glorifies slavery exactly?

Song of the South is a Disney film, and they'll NEVER lose their rights. Eventually, the movie will be released with a lot of grand hoopla. Just a matter of when.

What's wrong with this movie? Why so controversial?
Don't give up the fight for truly independent cinema!

It's not controversial, really. It just portrays a former slave who is happy and not disgruntled. In the 60s, it was "the thing" to portray Blacks in entertainment as angry and bitter toward Whites. That's still being promoted today. So, given that, it's incomprehensible that any former black slave would be "happy." It just can't be.
Song of the South has cinematic significance. It's the first full-length motion picture to blend animation with live action, and Zippidy-Do-Dah won the Oscar for Best Song that year. The film also preserves the stories of American storyteller Uncle Remus, a name unfamiliar to the younger generations.
Gone with the Wind's portrayal of "happy Blacks" is ignored, yet Song of the South gets heat. Personally, I think it's a decision on Disney's part to not rattle any cages. I remember one of their animated features was released to video in the mid 90s, and all references to one character smoking were removed. So, we see scenes of him making and smoking an invisible cigarette! Too much catering to political correctness!

Zippity Do-Dah has been a staple on many Disney sing-along tapes, videos and DVDs, so it's a safe bet to say a lot of people under 50 are aware of it. Maybe they're not aware of why it's being held up, but they know there's such a film. The last time it was rereleased to the public as a film was in 1986. That's 31 years ago.

It's a great movie and any excuse not to release it is ridiculous.
