I hope Bannon does something about it considering the recent Disney direction.

I have vague recollections of the film. Was this released on VHS in the early days of movie rentals? I seem to recall watching the full film back then.
There are actually a few Disney live actions films that need proper transfers. Most of the live action films from the 1950's to 1970's were released by Disney in horrible pan and scan transfers or not at all.
Disney needs to license out their live action library to a third party to have them properly released if Disney is not willing to take the risk of doing it themselves.

I recall seeing this as a child, and again as an adult. It's a film of the times, and if viewed from an historical perspective, can be used as a learning tool. It' wasn't that long ago since Civil Rights became law. We have short memories.

For all the complaints about racism, one of the main things I noticed is a young white kid befriending a black man, showing that friendship transcends race and children are not inherently prejudiced. How many films in 1946 would have even gone that far?

It seems that someone has not forgotten about the film... Here's a quote from The Digital Bits, they are pretty reliable: February 24, 2017 " ...Also, new 4K restoration work has been done on Disney’s "Song of the South" to fix certain shots previously out of alignment (because of a faulty camera used during the original photography), though no public release is currently planned..." www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/022417-0100Hmm... If Disney wants to "bury" this film... Why are they doing 4K restoration work?

I am not pretending i am not familiar with this movie. I didn't hear about the movie until last week (I am on a Disney animation kick).
I hadn't heard of any of those animated Disney movies that came out between Bambi and Cinderella.

The weird thing is that I thought they were pretending the film never existed.
However, I went to Disneyworld and they had a whole water log ride based on it, same vocals and everything.
I think it even had a tar baby.
I explained the story to my kids while waiting in line. The movie is good and its silly to not release it.
