If I may (not trying to get into an argument), whatever you think of the Bible, it has been accepted by many religions and even secularists for thousands of years that there was once a worldwide flood. Today we can see evidence to support it. One modern theory is that there was a canopy of water in low orbit surrounding the earth. It got too low at some point and finally split open creating a worldwide flood. This idea leads me to speculate as to the possibility that this canopy would have facilitated longer life spans by keeping out direct sunlight and thereby slowing the process of thermodynamics on the earth. Worth considering. The way I heard it was dinosaurs lived in Texas and humans and mammals (redundant) lived in Canada and that's why there are different rock layers. Texas, being lower, flooded first obviously.

He probably did. People had no reason to lie about being old. We know that ageism was almost as high then as it is in present day U.S. The elderly were not "respected" or "revered". We know that from the many older leaders and prophets who had to run for their lives from young upstarts, including the big shot king of big shot kings, David.
It's not hard to fathom, even by Nature. Most every "old age death" today is actually the result of lifetimes of wear and tear, injuries, abuse, accidents, crime, discrimination, other problems over the lifetimes of the people who finally die.
It's ridiculous to think there aren't demonic supernatural beings at work. Look at the reality. At about the same time that water was being treated by governments like the U.S. to be less contaminated and cleaner, fake, processed, and near plastic foods came into the market. Upshot-downside. Only the most gullible fool doesn't know when Chico Marx is giving him the tutti frutti deal.
The laws of Physics itself deals a death blow to anything living. Clearly, laws don't write themselves, and some Satanic being has been writing the laws of Physics. Not the good God.
So, even if there isn't a better world after this one, it's still a blessing to finally leave this one. To not be under the thumb of the supernatural monsters any more. In fact, it's much more desirable to believe in annihilation than to think that we might still be under the thumb of some other character even after death.
So, it's very credible that the evil supernatural devil or demons continued to write terrible laws for human souls as time went on. After all, Homo Sapiens have almost nothing going for them in the natural order of dog eat dog. Slower than most animals, less leaping ability, inability to fly, the last creature to get an apple from a tree. So, early on, humans had to have some supernatural help in order to survive as a species. And, as time progressed after the "fall" from grace, the demonic figure or figures made things worse.
