There seems to be some confusion among you heathens on this thread between Mary Magdalene and Jesus' mother. Two different Marys! I’ll stick my hand up. I’m the heathen. what’s worse, not the first time I’ve got them mixed up. Magdalene was the girlfriend wasn’t she ?

She was at the Crucifixion and was one of the first to see the empty tomb and the resurrected Christ. The Gospel of Luke said the Jesus exorcised seven demons from MM. There was a ton of "Marys" in Jesus' little band. MM, Mary, Mother of God, Mary, mother of James the Less, Mary of Bethany, Mary of Clopas. The last two might have been one person or all three might have been the Magdalene. Somewhere if the 6th Century the uptight hypocrites that ran Christianity made Mary Magdalene out to be a whore. The non-canonical Gospel of Phillip seemed to hint that JC and MM were close. So they threw Phil's gospel out and made MM out to be a hooker.

I always thought Mary Magdalene was the woman whom Jesus saved from a mob in the "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" incident.

No one can not convince me otherwise, but if there was a girl in the troupe when Jesus did the loaves and fishes trick, nor the water into wine bit - he didnt get laid that night. Of course he did. The ladies love a bit of magic and trickery. Claudia Schiffer wasn't banging David Copperfield because he was good looking after all......

Son of God or not, if Mary disrobes and gives Jesus the 'fuck me now' look - Jesus is getting down.... He was a 33 year old carpenter after all.

The Gospels all agree that Jesus didn't know of his calling and didn't begin his ministry until he met John the Baptist at age 30. From age seven until age 30, his life was a mystery. 30 wasn't a spring chicken back in the day. He might have married and had kids until he hooked up with JTB.
Before people think I'm a religious kook, I have a very odd version of Christianity. I've read the teachings of Joshua bar Joseph, the probable real name of Jesus of Nazareth. And, guess what, they are very good words to live by. Judge not, Physician, heal thyself, Let he who is without sin, etc. That all adds up to "Mind your own damn business". Love thy neighbor, do unto others, yeah a good philosophy. The Beatitudes, aka "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" et al, damn, that powerful stuff. I can't find much of anything in Jesus' teaching that I can argue with. I think it was the clowns that followed, Paul, Augustine, up to modern day theologians that bent his message into "Jews are Christ Killers", "The children of Ham (the dark skinned) are cursed to be hewers of wood", "kill homosexuals", etc. Just follow the words of Jesus and I an deal with that

TheGoodMan19 Jesus was a bit of a tool though. Matthew 10:34-38 34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— 36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ 37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Sorry, but that's a no from me. Doubly so given the story of Abraham and Isaac - assuming of course that Jesus knew full well how that story went (and he should, given we was God after all).

Not everything he said was great. The whole "Render unto Caesar" crap. He cursed the fig tree because it didn't have a fig for him. He killed a bunch of pigs in a snit in Matthew 8. He might have been the Son of God (aren't we all?) but he was human.

Ritual upon ritual upon ritual. My first wife was Baptist, which made me yearn to the Orthodox ritual as opposed to the lunacy of the Bible Thumpers. My wife now is Catholic but not practicing. But the power of the Catholic Church in Buffalo is scary. It almost rivals Rome, Dublin or Madrid. All organized religion, Orthodox, Catholic, Baptist, Sunni, Shia, whatever, is the true root of all evil.

Religion, like any other human social/political/economic construct (communism, capitalism, etc.) always sounds great in theory. It's what those in power do with it that ruins it for everyone else.

That is Vin Diesel! Is this for real? I am having a hard time believing that an university would dedicate any time at all to mythological Adam. Might as well wonder what Hercules or Shiva or Loki might have looked like.
