This was the only holiday I liked as a child because back in the 50's, it was for the kids. We would start out at 8:00 pm and not come in until right after midnight. The schools always scheduled a teachers meeting on Nov. 1st if Halloween fell on a weekday so the kids could sleep in and puke all the candy they ate. I didn't want any sweets for weeks after Halloween, my Dad would eat the rest of the candy, he had a sweet tooth.
My most hated holiday was Thanksgiving, there were always fights then football and I was the official dishwasher from the time I was 8 years old onward, the boys didn't have to do dishes and my sister (10 yrs older) was considered an adult and got to sit around with the other "adults" plus I don't like turkey, sweet potatoes , yams, cranberries and pies. I liked the dressing (stuffing), mashed potatoes, peas, and olives.
