For the next three days, native Mexicans celebrate this holiday, in a sort of communion with the spirits of loved ones who have died. I am not a native Mexican but read about the holiday in a historically based novel and liked the idea of it. So today especially, I spend the day remembering my late husband and my father, by having a small 'altar' with their photos, small possessions I have kept, food that they liked to eat and lighted candles. This year I have added a small, clear bottle of alcohol in the shape of a skull, and an ornament, in the style of Dia de los Muertos decorations, in the form of a cat. I've lost many well-loved companion animals in my time and thought this was a good addition. I will make food that my humans loved, a special dish I made for holidays, and just in general remember the good times I had with all these sentient beings that have died. They still live, in my head and my heart! A quick Google search will find further information on the holiday, if you are interested!

Yes, & this is also the Feast of All Saints & tomorrow is the Feast of All Souls. So, we all pray for those that have passed on during this time.
