Hey screamingtreefrogs, who has the best cheesesteak in Philly? The family and I will be there tomorrow. I've had Pat's & Geno's and both are fine but tourist traps and overrated imo. John's Roast Pork was damn good when I tried it a few year's back. Any other places in the area that you, or anybody else on here, recommend?
There is a place in Camden called Donkey's Place that is excellent but looking for something new.

I always liked a place called Cleavers on South 18th Street You really can't go wrong though just going into any Mom & Pop corner pizza store Stay away from that food now though - cleaned up my diet a few years back Worse comes to worse - stop at WAWA - I'm serious - I used to eat one of these everyday - they were (are) awesome

And can't go to Philly without getting a cheesesteak. Plus my son loves them so he's excited. I don't know dude, they might revoke your Phiily card for suggesting WaWa. Their shorties are good in a pinch but I can't go to Philly and hit up WaWa!

Definitely stay away from the tourist traps, you're right about that.
But honestly, I'd say do the cheesesteak for lunch but you should grab dinner at either Zahav or Vernick. Two of the best meals I've ever had.
Zahav was rated the best restaurant in the US a few years ago so getting a reservation is impossible. But you can walk right up and either put your name on the list, or if you're there early enough, you can probably snag a high top in the bar. It's Mediterranean and I guarantee that you (and everyone) will love it, even the kids. It's also not crazy expensive, although I haven't been there since our corporate masters decided to fuck John Q. Consumer in the ass and raise the price of every thing under the sun.
Vernick is a bit more of a fine-dining kinda place, although not stuffy; you can totally walk in there in a t-shirt. I'm not a big pasta guy, but they had this octopus in hand-made ravioli special that was perhaps the single best pasta dish I've ever had. I also had a miso-braised halibut that was also high up the list. Probably not great for the kids though, unless they're not picky eaters the way a lot of kids are.
Double Knot is also really good - small plates Japanese food. You can probably walk right in there.

Even when I did eat meat, I was never a big cheesesteak guy.
