Elliott Gould is one of the most difficult and divisive characters active in the show business. He once blazed a path alongside George Segal, Alan Arkin and Canadian Donald Sutherland as an all-round entertainer of the movies. He's refused to play ball and continues to speak out against "the system".
Within Gould's long and storied career, what are some of "your own personal" career highlights?
'An Evening With Elliott Gould' (the actor discusses his life and career with journalist Ruthe Stein of the 'San Francisco Chronicle') [JCCSF - Monday, December 3, 2012]
Thank you!!

[Caught by the MPs]
Trapper: Finally caught up with us, huh?
Hawkeye: Where did we fail?
Trapper: I don’t know, I think it was the woman. Something tells me I’ve seen her someplace before.
Hawkeye: She was the one in Tangiers.
I watched some E/R episodes a few months ago on Internet Archive. George Clooney played a slacker.
I have California Split bookmarked on Tubi but haven't watched it yet. Degenerate gamblers. Good in a double feature with Let It Ride.
Little Murders.
Busting. Peter Hyams. Early buddy cops. Great Allen Garfield performance.
The Silent Partner is just a bizarre crime film. Good Christmas movie (!)
The Long Goodbye I was conflicted on at first being a big private detective fiction fan and collector but I came around eventually. I now consider a fine example of the private detective movie but some critics, including myself, thought Altman was crapping on the genre. And he was.

I loved it at first sight and like it more now.I especially liked the way Altman got the 40’s noir vibe while keeping it a 70’s film. Gould rumpled PI left room for the loose suit, the old fashioned apartment and car blurred the decade we were in. I loved repeating the same song in different settings.
I really have not loved any of Goulds other films. I used to like MASH BUT it’s meanness to people they don’t like does not work for me now. It sort of sums up what I see in Gould , his self indulgence, his prickly ness. I liked him in BUGSY AND OCEANS.
I REALLY REALLY WISH I had seen him on Broadway in I can Get it For You Wholesale.

Maybe the worst movie ever to play the Radio City Music Hall. What I'm saying is it stunk.

An actor whom I almost always enjoy immensely.
He’s superb in The Long Goodbye, although I was mixed on the film as a whole the one time I saw it. I’ve been meaning to watch that one again.
I really enjoyed Little Murders and he is terrific in that.

My favorite part of any film he's been in has to be this one scene:
Where, he and another actor are having a conversation. And out of nowhere the other actor says, ' did you ever think about suicide?' And elliott gould doesn't think anything about that question, and he just says no I don't believe in it.
And , after that response they just keep talking about other things. It just goes back to the conversation they were having before that strange question.

Carol Kane has worked with Elliott Gould on different projects including Mark Rydell's 'Harry And Walter Go To New York' (1976), James Frawley's 'The Muppet Movie' (1979), Menahem Golan's 'Over The Brooklyn Bridge' (1984) and Joyce Chopra's 'The Lemon Sisters' (1990). She's kissed him, hit him, bitten him, ridden him in to the ground.
Carol Kane & Elliott Gould
Gould is a close friend and rival of the Cookie Monster and Kane was the only person allowed into Grouchytown by Oscar. They starred together in the sports musical 'Casey At The Bat' (an episode of Shelley Duvall's series 'Tall Tales & Legends') on television in the 1980s. Gould's been a great friend to Miss Kane, like Bud Cort and Charles Durning.
With Richard Rush's comedy 'Getting Straight' (1970), Gould became a hero to campus radicals. Subversion was his middle name. Quentin Tarantino is known to be a big fan of Elliott Gould but he's also long on the record as being a fan of Richard Rush's work as a director.

Over the years, Elliott Gould has been voted "sexiest man alive" in a variety of publications. He's noted for the thickness of his chest hair. He sent up his image as a sex symbol on 'Saturday Night Live' in a sketch featuring Candice Bergen, Tina Fey, Steve Martin and Paul Rudd. Bergen was once voted "sexiest woman alive".
