the sci fi action film loosely based on the Stephen King book and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Was not really a big hit when it came out and Arnold wasn't that pleased with the final result (in his book he heavily criticizes the choice of Paul Michael Glaser as the director and says he failed to bring a cinematic touch to the film) but has gained a cult following over the years. I think it is a super fun movie that blends macho action with some interesting ideas and themes and some prescience. Obviously people point out how the movie predicted reality TV and mass surveillance but one thing that may slider under the radar is the movie's prediction of deepfakes, with the scene where the put fake faces over Arnold and Ventura over other people to fake a fight between them. Richard Dawson is also fantastic as the game host and there is also an awesome score from Harold Faltermeyer (that feels kind of John Carpenter ish at times). Recently has received a 4K steelbook

It's a fun middle-tier Schwarzenegger movie. Maybe if someone like Paul Verhoeven directed it, it would had performed better.

It's pretty mid-tier Schwarzie but still fun.

It is steaming fresh dog shit, no two ways about it. Not only is it an adaptation of the damn good King novel only in name, it is also an insult to futuristic, socially conscious sport movies. Watch Rollerball or Death Race 2000 instead.
