I'm gonna take a guess and say this is gonna be pretty one sided. Tom Hardy wins for me simply by virtue of well...not being Topher Grace. Grace was such a bizzare pick at the time and I tried to keep an open mind...but no, he was just horribly miscast, everytime I saw him on screen I didn't see "Eddie Brock", I just saw the goofy kid from "That 70s Show" (typecasting is a bitch). Though to be fair everyone was pretty bad in that one, maybe with better directing it could have worked...though I kinda doubt it.

Tom Hardy easily. He makes both Venom movies worth watching for me. Wish they did the crossover with Tom Holland already. I think that would be a riot.

As I like to say, that's like comparing a Pinto to a Porsche.

Both VENOM movies are literal trash. Well I didn't ask what you thought about the Venom movies, I asked who played Venom better. Are you implying Spider-man 3 was better? Because that movie was just a bloated, incoherent mess.

I don't think it is comparable because they are playing two completely different versions of the character.
Which do I think is the better performance in context with the version they are playing? Tom Hardy.
I dislike how the character is written in both, but I dislike how the character is written more in the Venom movies. They turn him into a goofball. In Spider-Man 3 he is juts underwritten, but I think if Tom Hardy had played the character instead of Topher Grace, I think he would have given the better performance and also have been much better cast.
One big issue I have with Hardy's performance is that he isn't convincing as a journalist.
The one thing I will give them Venom movies huge props for is getting the look of both Venom and Carnage absolutely right. Spider-Man 3 did not get the look of Venom right.

Tom Hardy. Though I like SM3 more than either Venom movie but that has more to do with things outside of Brock/Venom.

The idea behind casting Grace was inspired. Venom was created as an evil twin Spider-Man, so they wanted someone who could be an evil twin Tobey Maguire. Jake Gyllenhaal would probably make more sense, but Grace is in that ballpark. His role was just really underwritten and badly used.
Where I'd want to see more of Grace's, I wish we could see less of Hardy's. Don't like the "bromance" angle between Eddie and the symbiote, and the character is completely uninteresting to me as the main star vs foil for Spidey.

Tom Hardy is a better fit for the role However the Venom movies make Spider-Man 3 look like a masterpiece
