Holy shit was that actual horror? That as to be my favorite episode. I have seen many comments on FB defending the lack of action/horror saying they have to build story. This episode spits in the face of it. It did both. We meet Henry and Sam, get to know why the terribly miscast Melanie Lynskey wants to catch him, and it all culminates in a finale that perfectly mimics the terror and chaos you feel while playing this game. I liked this episode. I think the only complaint I have about it is the show is moving too quick (and this episode continued that). Each episode focuses on a different supporting character, BAM they are gone, and onto the next one. I liked it a lot. I agree that Lynskey felt miscast. I just had a hard time buying that all these “freedom fighters” would follow her lead as she seemed neither charismatic, tough or particularly smart. She even admitted her misplaced priority was killing Henry when it should have been so many other things. That right there speaks to how stupid a leader she was. But I really liked everything with Henry and Sam and the infected battle sequence.

I'm ambivalent about Melanie Lynskey, however.

But I really liked everything with Henry and Sam and the infected battle sequence. People would de-evolve if society collapsed. The biggest and toughest would takeover. Like animals. I think among good people trying to do more than survive, you would get some women among the leadership, but they weren't good people, like you said, she offered nothing.
Aside from that, it was very good. It had both a story and tension. You don't have to choose, you can have horror and have it not be empty. The last two episodes could have been like that. The encounter with the Hunters (a militia in this show) should have been longer and more chaotic (similar to how it is when all the infected show up at the end of this episode). But this episode? It delivered.

A Linda Hamilton type would be just as realistic as Melanie Lynskey. The lack of proper nutrition would not make you look like a muscle-bound Terminator hunter either.

Appearance for me was insignificant. I just didn’t think she had any traits a believable leader of people would. It’s not a huge deal because like most of the supporting characters so far, she’s already dead…it was just a role that with the way it was written and performed, didn’t quite convince me.

I'm getting tired of this show already. It's a lot of nothing with a little something thrown in and none of the actors are particularly good at acting. If this season doesn't get any better it will be last.

If this season doesn't get any better it will be last. Exactly how I feel. I liked the Henry and Sam episode, but have been lukewarm to and didn't like every other one. This show is a big nothing burger. It's supposed to be horror mixed with drama. Not a drama with a sprinkle of horror. In 6 episodes, the show's action/horror can be boiled down to the outbreak, museum scene, and the horde (which was great, but not enough). There's a lot of nothing in this show and the game was soooo much better balanced than this generic drama.

Bella Ramsey is starting to grow on me as Ellie. She definitely doesn't look the part, but she's nailing every aspect of Ellie's personality.

To me that made it work and I was able to see it as a uniquely counterintuitive casting, not a bad one like I did before this convo happened.

i loved the Bill and Frank episode. More than the rest of the show so far. I hope they make a spin off just focused on them and their lives.

I hope they make a spin off just focused on them and their lives. but I hated/ was bored during the bottle episode with Ellie and Riley. The “left behind”. episode. It was slow, they didnt have the chemistry, no Joel, plus who wants to watch two early teens getting it on??

There hasn't been a weak episode, each one flies by. Just gutted it's only nine episodes (so far).
Even the flashback episodes have been on the money. I'm hardly what you'd call the woke progressive type, but episode 3 (especially once Frank got sick) was powerful and moving.

Would totally watch a spin off about him/them.

Not enough happens in this show. Not terrible, but it's just there. It's very boring and anticlimactic; both the finale and show, I mean. Very average. I don't get all the "amazing" talk or awards chatter. That's incomprehensible to me. The tone of this show is just sooooo off. A post-apocalyptic show about two guys rolling in the grass, picking strawberries, and drinking. A serious lack of infected (and horror), but hours of people just.... walking? And I just can't get past Bellas Ramsey's face. It's distracting. She simply doesn't look like Ellie and reminds me of Steve Morrison, a radio host in Philly. I listen to this show often and just see his face in her:
