I wonder has any fathers and sons scored in World Cups. Just looking up George and he didn't score in one. Hold on he played for Liberia so there was no chance. Diego Simone didn't score but anyway his son is nowhere near the Argies squad.

Diego Simone didn't score but anyway his son is nowhere near the Argies squad. Didn't George Weah play for Liberia? Did Liberia ever qualify for the World Cup?
*** Edit ***
What does it say about my attention span that I managed to completely miss the second paragraph in a three (very short) paragraph post?

How many father / sons have played for different countries in the World Cup? Thiago Alcantara of Liverpool plays for Spain. His father Mazinho won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994.
*** EDIT ***
He played in the 2018 World Cup but is not in the Spanish squad for this year's edition.

It would drive you mad these players falling on the ground and stopping the game like Ampadu, his father played for Ireland but didn't get in one of the World Cup squads.

What's with the very long added time in all three matches today? Was it justified? I know the first half of the England x Iran match was stopped for several minutes when the Iranian goalkeeper butted heads against an English player.

That US defender must have had a wee side bet on a score draw - that "tackle" was absolutely unnecessary madness!

Made hard work of that 1st half. We just couldn't get going. No outlet past the back 3. Wing backs doing nothing, Rambo playign far to deep. Then Keiffer came on and changed the game. All of a sudden we had someone holding up ball so runners could give him options. Perhaps could have and should have won the game.
Bale was apparently man of the match but largely awful. Ampadu should have been given man of the match, he was everywhere that second half.
Will take that point and move on. Sadly I think it suits us if England batter the USA now. That'll be a tough watch.

What's with the very long added time in all three matches today? Was it justified? I know the first half of the England x Iran match was stopped for several minutes when the Iranian goalkeeper butted heads against an English player. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63710986We are only two days into this World Cup and already we are seeing a theme developing: Stoppage-time. And lots of it. The four games so far have had nearly 65 minutes added on between them, with England's match against Iran lasting an incredible 117 minutes and 16 seconds. That was partly down to injury - Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand suffered concussion after a nasty clash of heads early on. But it is also part of a concerted effort by Fifa to clamp down on time-wasting by more accurately monitoring the amount of time the game is stopped. Reasons the game is halted include injuries, video assistant referee decisions, substitutions, penalties and red cards, with some players often deliberately delaying the restart after such incidents in order to wind down the clock. …

According to Opta, the four single halves with the most stoppage time in a single World Cup match since records began in 1966 were all on Monday:
England v Iran first half (14:08 minutes) England v Iran second half (13:08) USA v Wales second half (10:34) Senegal v Netherlands second half (10:03) Unsurprisingly, all that added time led to some VERY late goals.
Mehdi Taremi's penalty for Iran against England came with 102:30 on the clock, the latest World Cup goal on record excluding extra time.
