In contrast to what some people think, There is no truth to the stories about Rasputin and the Empress Alexandra having been lovers. In fact, we don't have any sound reason to say that Rasputin had any sexual relationship with any woman of privilege.
Also Russia did not have a Queen as the song says, Russia had an empress, Russia was an empire not a kingdom.

In fact, we don't have any sound reason to say that Rasputin had any sexual relationship with any woman of privilege. Very true. Alexandra truly loved Nicholas and never would have had an affair with anyone. There was the infamous “All I want is to sleep, sleep forever on your shoulder, in your embrace” letter but it didn't mean a post-sexual embrace. And Rasputin never would have gambled his life on trying to separate the Tsarina from her knickers.
The problem was, many Russians believed it. There were cartoon that were well circulated in Russia that showed Rasputin servicing Alexandra (and the Grand Duchesses sometimes) while Nicky played the piano. If only Alexandra had come out and said "My son Alexei has hemophilia. And Father Gregori helps him.". Then most Russians would have sympathized with the Royal Family and understood why they put up with that filthy "Holy Man". It was a titanic mistake on the part of the Romanovs in keeping Alexei's hemophilia secret.

And yet, even when the prince's hemophilia was made known, the rumour that Rasputin was doing the empress still circled, hence the lyric, "lover of the Russian queen," despite the other lyric "She believed he was a holy healer who could heal her son."

There is a series on Netflix which does a good job of chronicling the reign of Nicholas the second; The Last Czars. link

What I always found interesting.... and yes, it's unlikely that Alexandra actually slept with Rasputin... is that there is the rumor that his penis was saved in a jar and another rumor that an ex-lover had it stuffed for further....use. 🍆
