Maybe, but if In Through the Outdoor was any indication, maybe it’s best they didn’t. I've said this about the Beatles, the Doors and others. Maybe it's better to burn out that fade away. It might be debatable, but many bands suffer from diminished quality as they age. Groups like the Stones, The Kinks, The Who haven't had as much great tunes as they go on. You see the same things with athletes. Some have the sense to retire when they can still play, some hang on too long and become shadows of themselves. There's no guarantee that the Beatles or LZ would have continued to make great music.

Would have depended on Page's and Peter Grant's drug consumption, the focus had been lost and they needed a few years away. Plant's solo career and his dislike of the whole Zeppelin circus stopped it ever happening though.
