As fans keep up with Argentina’s success in this year’s World Cup, a familiar question arises: Why doesn’t Argentina’s team have more Black players? In stark contrast to other South American countries such as Brazil, Argentina’s soccer team pales in comparison in terms of its Black representation. www.washingtonpost.com/made-by-history/2022/12/08/why-doesnt-argentina-have-more-black-players-world-cup/I don`t know, it could be because Argentina is 85% white. Nobody complains if a team is all black, and they should not complain about that, because that would be stupid. Its also stupid to complain if a team is all white or mostly white.

Most of the comments after the article are a bit derisive of it.

Well, I can appreciate that part of the article does try to honestly answer it’s own question: There was some discouraging and desertion of the Black population. But it was mostly absorbed by “colorism”. Still the rest of the article comes off as identity politics clickbait. Nothing nefarious about why the team is all white. Some people want to politicize everything!

You really need to question the preoccupation that people, mainly Americans, have with race that causes them to ask these questions. At least with the Scottish Cricket story they could point to talented non-white players who had missed out. Not even an attempt at that here.

And the other 15% are Indians, not black. Maybe I should start a GoFundMe for a campaign to increase diversity in Argentina's national team. Maybe I can get a hundred thousand before the idiot race warriors realise that it is fake. The answer to the question is obvious to anyone who has actually been to Argentina, like me. Maybe the author of the article should go there before writing about the country. I didn't see any blacks in Morocco's team either, but somehow I don't think anyone at the Washington Post will be complaining about that.

One learns something new every day. I just found out from the WaPo article that Maradona was not white! I am sure that would come as a surprise to a lot of people in Argentina, starting with Maradona's family.

Americans weird obsession with racial profiling is utterly bizarre.
I love seeing the various mental contortions they make when they find out Hispanic/Latino/Spanish people come from Europe and are ‘White’, and aren’t all ‘Brown’ people from Central America.
Likewise, I’d imagine many would be utterly confused that Morocco, a team with some Arabic, some European names, some white, some olive, some brown skinned men but no ‘blacks’ are actually African…..

Why doesn't Cameroon have more white players in the WC? Oh come on, you know that representation only matter in country where the vaste majority of people are white.

Take it back to the days of Lothrop Stoddard (well, you could take it back before then). It's not just Hispanics who weren't white, it was anyone who wasn't Nordic or Anglo. The Irish weren't considered to be white until the Civil War in the United States (non-whites weren't allowed to own guns, but we needed more people to fight, so the Irish "became" white). Tom Buchanan talks about the book he's reading, The Rise of the Coloured Empires, in The Great Gatsby - - somebody like Gatsby wouldn't have been considered white by Tom (white people wouldn't have a name ending in "z" like "Gatz", Gatsby's real name). Each country has their own thing that they are caught up on - - for the US, it's certainly race.
