My vote goes to Dave Gallahan. Neil Tennant could have also worked (Marr even collaborated with him). Maybe Robert Smith? Interestingly enough I'm pretty sure all those people hate Morrissey.

I've always had trouble with two Manchester bands for their singers. Ian Brown's just not a very good singer in my opinion, particularly live, but on record he's adequate and the brilliant musicians in Stone Roses paper over a massive crack.
With Morrissey, it's different, his voice and intonation really rub me up the wrong way and always have. What some hear as the superior and poetic vocals of a masterful Wildeian wit, I hear as smug snidery and snarkery on steroids when he delivers some (admittedly) great lyrics with a daffodil planted firmly up his coiled backside. It's a shame as I adore the music and find the lyrics genuinely interesting; Johnny Marr, Craig Gannon, Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce - just awesome in my book.

Rick Astley is having a good crack of it with "Blossoms".
