Smurfs in the water just isn’t all that interesting. The wonder of the first film has worn off.

That runtime was always going to be killer for the box office. The first one also had ridiculous legs, so this one might too.

"The film snared $134 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend, just under the $135 million that Disney had forecast. Internationally, “Way of Water” tallied $300.5 million, bringing the film’s opening weekend haul to $434.5 million."

Regardless of content, it’s really sad they can’t make a film grossing 1.3 billion a hit. Any film making a billion or more should be considered a massive hit. Really poor budgeting by the studio.

The original AVATAR did not need a sequel. Instead, Cameron will piss way the remaining productive years of his career (rather than helming new, original projects). It’s his choice. Nobody is forcing him to make these movies. If it makes him happy good for him.

It's doing fine and it still has a great chance of hitting 3B$. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought but it will improve on repeat viewings in the next couple months. What I've been really loving is reading the reactions from moviegoers the last couple days and they're wonderful. Jims movies aren't front loaded and this has 2 months of steady box office before any competition comes along. Probably my 6th or 7th fave of his but the kids are lapping this up and the word of mouth is mighty.

I agree, a 350-400 million budget is too expensive. But Cameron gets the budgets he wants, and Disney have deep pockets. PS: Russia is also not in play. Avatar did $117 million there, back in 2009.

75% of IMDb voters have it at 8 and upwards
Awaiting Mondays numbers, I think a lot of older folk will go during the day while the kids are at school.
Always love watching the numbers come in for Jim's movies.

It's going to play like gangbusters over the holidays, so I wouldn't make dire projections just yet. This baby has long legs.

I had a feeling this would happen, the first Avatar was such a visual landmark for it's time so it made sense it made a ton of money. 13 years later the gimmick has kinda worn off. This. True

Since Cristmas Eve and old year both fall on Saturdays, this will hurt the second and third weekends. Cant see this pass 500 million domestic. Top Gun was the true winner of 2022. Come on Jim, great movie, but keep it as a trilogy and move on.

This movie was never going to make $2 billion. It doesn't need to. It will make well over $1 billion and will be considered a huge success.

I think the film will have strong legs in the weeks ahead. It has virtually no competition. Next week has gotta be the biggest movie going week of the year. Then it’s got all of January. So I don’t know if it’ll reach 2 billion, likely not, however it really should do pretty well considering the position it’s been placed in.

A lot of people are fine waiting and watching from home now. Post pandemic you gotta be Spider-Man to make people leave their house. Spider-Man is in the post credit scene.

Its gone from 33rd up to 23rd place today. Hopefully it gets to 4th so Jim will have 3 of the top 4 highest grossing movies of all time. The love is strong with this one with the kids/new generation of Jimmy Cameron fans. It probably dosen't even get in to my top 6 Cameron movies but I'm loving the reactions around the world. www.boxofficemojo.com/chart/top_lifetime_gross/?area=XWW

It does seem to have an amusement park giga-coaster vibe to it, where ppl want to try it in 3D while it's here.
I'm seeing it on Monday.

I guess he’s going to make 3-5 after all. He’s said he has ideas for 6 and 7 too. I think they can all get made, but they gotta figure out a way to lower the budget. No way is making these sequels on 400 million or more budgets each is gonna be sustainable. They gotta figure out a way to max out by 200-250 mill per movie (which is still a lot).
